My brain is made of paper.
My thoughts are bound in black leather, and my emotions are processed in gel pens.
(Black ink for the normal stuff, ✨sparkly ink✨ for the really tough stuff).
My journal is my second brain. It’s the place where I’m able to process thoughts, record my memories, and dream about the future.
But I wasn’t always a journaler. For years I started and stopped diaries. I didn’t get it. I wanted to keep a journal, but I couldn’t seem to commit.
It wasn’t until college that I realized that there are more than one way to keep a journal. This simple idea was — and I don’t say this lightly — life changing for me.
And today, I want to help you get started, too

The three types of journaling

Recording is all about the past. Think of your traditional diary entry: “Dear diary, this is what happened today.” But it doesn’t have to stop there! Other kinds of recording can include scrapbooking, quick bullet points of events you want to remember, or even social media posts.
Journaling for processing absolutely changed my life and the way I’m able to interact with the world. This style of journaling is all about using the paper and pen to work through whatever emotions you’re experiencing or problems you’re trying to solve.
Planning is something we all have to do in some form. But whether or not you use a physical journal-style planner, bringing a journal mindset to the experience can add a lot of structure to your planning system.
